On our walk today I saw two dead pigeons. I spotted one when some other birds were jumping up around it. I thought from a distance that they were pigeons, too. I could see small feathers in a big circle. When we got near I could see it had deep wounds around its neck. So how had it died? Natural causes and then attacked by other birds? I could hear a magpie in the trees above us.
Later, when Tamara was on the phone with her hairdresser who was recovering from the virus, I saw a white pigeon in the long grass, face down and tail up in the air.
What a thing to see two dead pigeons in one day. It has been years since I saw even one dead pigeon.
